JoyNews has gathered that Baba Jamal Mohammed Ahmed, Member of Parliament-elect for Ayawaso East on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), is currently being questioned at the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).
Sources say investigators have confiscated his mobile phones as part of ongoing probes into alleged vote-buying during the party’s parliamentary primaries. JoyNews also understands that he could remain in OSP custody overnight while investigations continue.
The development follows growing public scrutiny over claims of inducements and the distribution of gifts during the Ayawaso East primary, an issue that has generated controversy within the NDC and beyond.
Meanwhile, a three-member committee set up to investigate the alleged vote-buying incident is expected to present its report later today, Tuesday. The NDC constituted the committee after complaints and public concerns emerged over reports that items, including television sets, were allegedly shared in the constituency during the primary process.
Party leadership has assured supporters and the public that appropriate action will be taken after the committee submits its findings.
